All six Sevier County prep basketball teams were in action on Friday, Jan 20, with every team facing a district opponent. Friday night proved to be a fruitful one for Sevier County basketball teams, with several of them picking up wins on the hardwood.
Gatlinburg-Pittman played host to Pigeon Forge for an in-county district rivalry matchup on Friday night. The Highlanders and Lady Highlanders completed the season sweep over the Tigers and Lady Tigers, winning both contests Friday night.
The Lady Highlanders started the night with a 66-20 win over the Lady Tigers. Maddy Newman led the way for the Lady Highlanders with 33 points, followed by Leah Stinnett with 11 and Shilah Whaley with 10.
The Highlanders finished the night with a 81-51 win over the Tigers. Ty Glasper led the scoring effort for G-P with 24 points, followed by Carlos Orr who had 23.
The Lady Tigers Tigers remain above .500 at 8-7 on the year, but the Tigers move to 6-9 overall. They will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday, Jan 24, as they travel to Cosby.
The Lady Highlanders improve their record to 17-4 (5-1 in their district), and the Highlanders move to 15-4 overall (5-1 in their district). They’ll have another in-county game coming on Tuesday, Jan 24, as they travel to Seymour to take on the Eagles.
Sevier County traveled to Morristown East for a district matchup Friday night. The two teams would split games with one another with the Bearettes coming out on top, but the Smoky Bears falling short.
The Bearettes got off to an early lead and coasted their way to a 63-48 win. Leading the way was Cybil Penland who had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Behind Penland was Kinley Loveday with 14 points, and Natali Shultz with 9.
The Bearettes improve to 17-5 overall (5-0 in their district) with a tough matchup ahead of them as they travel to Alcoa on Tuesday, Jan 24.
Northview traveled to Carter Friday night for a district matchup. Both schools would split games with one another, as the Lady Cougars would come away with a win. However, the Cougars would fall short.
After dropping two in a row, the Lady Cougars looked to get back on track, picking up a 70-44 win over Carter. Reagan Brown led the way with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Behind Brown was Josie Horner who brought in 15 points and 5 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars improve to 15-6 (3-1 in their district) with another district game coming on Tuesday, Jan 24, as they travel to Gibbs.
Seymour Lady Eagles made it seven consecutive wins Friday night as they traveled to play district opponent Gibbs. The Lady Eagles continued to improve on the offensive end to take a 55-39 win.
Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was Jaden Cummings with 17 points, followed by Bailey McCoy with 12, and Caiden Russell with 11.
The Lady Eagles improve to 16-6 overall (4-0 in their district) with an in-county rivalry game awaiting them Tuesday, Jan 24, as they play host to Gatlinburg-Pittman.
The King’s Academy was the only other school to complete the sweep over their district opponent Friday night, with both the Lady Lions and Lions picking up wins over Grace Christian.
The Lady Lions started the night out with a 56-42 win over Grace Christian. Brady Branam led the way with 17 points, followed by Juleigh Anne Tucker who finished with 12.
The Lions completed the sweep as they cruised their way to a 62-33 victory. Damjan Simun led the scoring effort with 19 points, but received a great deal of help from Harrison Rollins who had 17 points as well as 16 rebounds.
The Lady Lions move to 11-8 overall (6-3 in their district), and the Lions improve to 18-4 (11-0 in their district). They’ll have another district contest on Tuesday, Jan 24, as they host Berean Christian.
