Gatlinburg-Pittman opened the season on a high note after a big first quarter versus Heritage on Monday night.

Senior Houston Byrd hit three triples, the team nailed five and freshman Ty Glasper scored eight points all in the first quarter as the Highlanders (1-0) raced out to a 28-9 lead over the Mountaineers.

Gatlinburg-Pittman never looked back as they controlled the rest of the game thanks to 20 points by Glasper and 19 from senior Grady Branton.

Byrd and sophomore Carlos Orr chipped in 11 points each in the win.

As a team, the Highlanders knocked down 12 three pointers, and they went 5-6 from the charity stripe.

Northview Academy 54, Hancock County 38

Northview Academy’s trio of big men led them to a convincing win over Hancock County on Monday.

Seniors Caden Swann and Conner Weyant, 11 points and 10 points respectively, both scored in double figures along with sophomore Richard Bell (15 points) as the Cougars improved to 2-1 overall.

Northview Academy jumped out to a 16-9 lead after one quarter, and they extended their lead to double digits by halftime before pulling away even more in the second half.

Mckade McGill chipped in eight points for the Cougars, while Korbin Presnell and DJ Thompson both scored five each.
