The Harriman Christmas Holiday Tournament began on Thursday with the Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets going against the Oakdale Eagles and Lady Eagles. Followed by the host teams, the Blue Devils and Lady Devils taking on McMinn Central and Mt. Pisgah Christian in the night cap. Both Kingston teams would come away victorious as the Lady Jackets defeated the Lady Eagles 62-22, while the Yellow Jackets defeated the Eagles by a score of 75-58. The boys game was a high speed affair with the Yellow Jackets demonstrating early and often their long range game connecting on 12 three pointers for the evening.
The Jackets would open the contest with 4 consecutive three pointers enabling them to take a 16-9 advantage as the first ended.
The 2nd opened with the Jackets again going to the long ball as Malachi Brown opened with two quick 3 pointers. The Eagles responded with a splurge of buckets enabling them to keep things close and the first half ended 35-27 Kingston.
The 3rd would see the Jackets open things up offensively, lead by three quick buckets by Ethan Clifton. Cory Raymer and Will Mioduski joined in and with the defense holding the Eagles to only 4 buckets the Jackets rolled up a 59-37 lead as the 3rd ended.
The Eagles would make a determined run throughout the final stanza but again the Yellow Jackets resorted to the multiple 3 pointers and coasted to the 75-58 victory.
The Jackets were lead on the evening by Will Mioduski and Cory Raymer with 13 each, Ethan Clifton 10, Jayden Dryman 8, Rylan Guettner and Malachi Brown with 6 each, Parker Bracket and Parker Jones 5 each, Blake Harrell and Grady Belitz 3 each and Ayden Osborne with 2. The Jackets next face Coalfield on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Jackets followed the boys lead and came charging out of the gate and like the boys lite it up from downtown. Three pointers by Braxton Fritz and Ella Lemons paved the way and the shot out to a 19-2 first quarter advantage. The Lady Eagle offense showed some life in the 2nd, lead by Chloe Hamby and Rhylan Hicks. But the Lady Jackets continued to flex their offensive muscle, lead by Kinsley Diggs and the Ladies maintained a comfortable lead as the half ended 38-13 Kingston.
The 3rd was a disaster for the Lady Eagles as they could manage only two buckets while the Lady Jackets attack on the bucket was relentless and the 3rd ended with Kingston up 60-17.
The pace in the final quarter slowed to a virtual stop with the two teams scoring only three buckets between them and the game ended 62-22 Lady Jackets.
The Lady Jackets were lead on the afternoon by Braxton Fritz 19, Marcy Neal 10, Ella Lemons 9, Sailor Pressley 8, Kinsley Diggs and Maris Neal 7 each and Madison McElveen with 2. The Lady Jackets play the Coalfield Ladies on Friday afternoon.
The Oakdale girls were lead by Chloe Hamby with 10, Rhylan Hicks 6 and Jayla Show, Bliee Goodson and Riley Voyles with 2 each.
The night cap would begin with the host, Harriman Blue Devils, taking the court against the Chargers of McMinn Central. Neither team enters the contest with a stellar record. The Chargers are currently 1-8 while the Blue Devil’s record is only slightly better at 3-11.
The Chargers opened the contest running while the Devils were more deliberate in their offense. The Chargers went out to a quick lead and the 1st ended with McMinn up 13-6.
The 2nd was again all Chargers and despite offense efforts from Cam Anderson and Martel Yeager and a 3 pointer by Talan Moore the half ended 32-19 McMinn.
The Devils were able to rally behind Camyan Campbell and Anderson in the third but the Chargers simply had too much fire power and McMinn pulled away to a 51-30 advantage as the 3rd ended.
The final act was basically a replay of the 3rd. The Devils were able to mount some offense, this time behind Zayden Broyles, but it was too little too late and the Chargers claimed the ictory 69-43.
On the night the Devils were lead by Campbell with 14, Anderson 8, Broyles 7, Nasir Stokes 4, Talon Moore and Ace Jackson 3 each and Martel Yeager with 2. The Chargers were lead by Will Cooper with 12, Carter Anderson and Raymond McCarty 11 each, McCain Baker 10, Brayden Bystry 9, Raymond McCarly 8.
The final game of the evening featured the Lady Devils against the Mt. Pisgah Christian Academy Lady Patriots. The Lady Devils feature the high powered offensive duo of Addison Oliver and Skyler Johnson. Both teams opened with a deliberate offensive attacks. The Devils were lead, as expected, by Oliver and Johnson. The Lady Patriots spread the scoring around and the quarter ended 9-5 Harriman.
The 2nd would see the Lady Devil defense hold the Lady Patriots to a single bucket while the Oliver-Johnson show continued. The Lady Devils left the court leading 20-9.
The 3rd quarter would see the Lady Devils spread the scoring around while the Lady Patriots were being lead by Hadley Walls and Brooklyn Foster. The quarter was played even up and ended 31-18 Harriman.
The 4th was a repeat of the 3rd with the teams exchanging buckets with the Lady Devils maintaining their margin throughout and the game ended 42-26 Lady Devils.
The Lady Patriots were lead by Hadley Walls with 12, Brooklyn Foster 7, Jesalyn Howard 4, Mattie Beard 2 and Carlee Foster 1. The Lady Devils were lead by Johnson with 12, Oliver 11, Addison Langley 6, Kendal Mason 5, Hanna Wilson 2 and Aaralyn Humphrey and Lexi Rose with 2 each.
The Lady Devils next face the Knox Central Lady Bobcats in what promises to be the premier matchup of the tournament.
