A new initiative between several judicial districts and local law enforcement seeks to further curtail the drug trafficking pipeline from Detroit to the streets of East Tennessee. Called the 313 Initiative, named after the 313 Detroit area code, the initiative was announced earlier this month and is a concerted effort by numerous state and local law enforcement to identify, target and dismantle individuals and groups who are distributing narcotics from Detroit to Knox and other areas of East Tennessee. Among the participating jurisdictions are the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th judicial districts.
In a release, officials said since the initiative started in December, law enforcement have seized 42 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly eight pounds of fentanyl/heroin, multiple pounds of other drugs, 29 guns and made 46 Detroit-connected arrests.
