A man involved in a car crash on River Road earlier this month was allegedly intoxicated.
The suspect, Willie E. Zeigler, was charged with DUI. It wasn’t his first time, according to the warrant.
“Zeigler was found to have numerous previous DUI convictions as well as driving on revoked license convictions,” the warrant said.
The crash happened on Jan. 13.
“Upon meeting with driver, I noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage on driver’s breath,” the warrant said. “I asked driver what caused him to crash and he stated a vehicle malfunction.”
The warrant said Zeigler was unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot eyes and delayed motor skills.
“Sergeant did determine Zeigler to be intoxicated and did place him under arrest for DUI and driving on a revoked license for a previous DUI on Dec. 10, 2021, also in Roane County,” the warrant said.
An Intox ECIR is a machine that law enforcement uses to test a person’s level of intoxication.
“Zeigler produced a sample at .138 and .122 on the Intox ECIR,” the warrant said.
The legal limit in Tennessee is .08.
Zeigler, 63, was still in custody at the Roane County Jail on Tuesday morning on bonds totaling $70,000.
