The Roane County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating last week’s double homicide. Steve Groover, 67, and Cindy Scruggs, 62, were found dead at 662 Buck Creek Road.

“We’re still working it everyday, talking to more and more people,” Sheriff Jack Stockton said. “We’re waiting on some autopsy and toxicology information.”

Groover and Scruggs were found on May 16. According to state real estate records, Groover owned the property at 662 Buck Creek Road. Scruggs was Groover’s girlfriend, according to Groover’s obituary.

Stockton said Monday that they had yet to identify any suspects in the case.

“I wish I could say yes, but not yet,” he said.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Detective Art Wolff at 865-376-5582.

Groover’s daughter is Jessica “Brooke” Groover. She was reported missing in February 2020. Authorities said she has not been found, although Groover’s obituary indicates she is deceased.
