PILOT destroys chance of living wage jobs

Editor:

If there was ever a chance for decent living wage jobs in the local service economy, it has vanished with the approval of the PILOT by Pigeon Forge. Dollywood benefits most, yet every major tourist business owner must be ecstatic that in three years there will be an additional 684 temporary foreign workers available for low wage jobs living in taxpayer subsidized housing.

The 684 jobs not filled by local workers take away all the upward pressure on wages which would otherwise exist. The PILOT is, in effect, corporate welfare which through the importation of foreign workers denies Sevier County residents economic opportunity in perpetuity.
