Velma Gibson Carter

On Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, Velma Gibson Carter went to her heavenly home.

Velma turned 86 on Oct. 31. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Velma was the oldest of 11 children. She retired from Zaire’s and Dollywood’s Candy Kitchen. She loved seeing new places and traveling, but most of all, she adored her friends and family. She spent her life giving and doing for others more than for herself. If you knew Velma, you knew love and selflessness. You also know that she is now happier than ever, with her parents, sisters, and, finally, holding her daughter, Kelly, for the first time.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Earl And Lela Gibson; her second born daughter, Kelley; and three sisters.

She is survived by daughter, Kathy Carter; grandchildren, Kevin and Emily Burns; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah; four brothers and three sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Special thanks to her sister Kay and nieces, Christie and Debbie.

Funeral Service will be 12 noon, Tuesday Nov. 23, 2021 at Rawlings Funeral Home with Rev. Ernie Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-12 noon Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 at Rawlings Funeral Home prior to the service. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery.
