Robert Jules “RJ” Nelkin, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away March 30, 2021 on his farm surrounded by his beloved family and animals.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York to his parents, William and Gloria Nelkin. He was 69 years old.
RJ grew up on Long Island where he had an extreme love and passion for cars. RJ followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps by working as a diamond dealer in the Manhattan. He married his sweetheart, Daryl, and together they began a successful racing career in the Formula Atlantic and Can-Am series. RJ and Daryl later moved from Long Island to Sevier County in the late 80’s with their three sons and soon after their daughter was born. Over the years he shared his passions with his children which included farming, hunting, skiing and being politically active.
RJ was a legendary man to those who knew and loved him. He and his wife raised four wonderful children. RJ took time to homeschool his youngest son and daughter during their middle school years. He loved all his animals, from his dogs to his kitties and to his mules Sassy, Sally, Kate and Nelly. RJ was a gentleman farmer who enjoying rescuing animals, both big and small, and giving them a forever home. He worked hard to keep the farm looking beautiful.
RJ is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years; his children, Josh and Nuria Nelkin, Micah and Ashley Nelkin, M.S. Nelkin, and Maxx and Matt Sidwell, his grandchildren and his sisters, Merle London and Tina Nelkin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
