Melvin Esley Walters, 73, of Sevierville, passed March 15, 2023.
Melvin was active in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. Melvin was a skilled auto mechanic that was highly sought after due to his high level of experience and knowledge, but even more so because of his fairness to the community he lived and worked in. Melvin was an avid reader and would frequently read and research to expound his knowledge of cars. He enjoyed time spent outdoors, in the mountains and had a special love for Cades Cove. After vacationing in the area, he decided to make it his and Debra’s permanent home and lived here for 40 years. In 2005 he retired from the Smoky Mountain Home for Children. He was a member of Community First Church of God in Seymour. He loved fishing and spending time with family especially his grandchildren.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and LoDelia Walters.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years,, Debra Walters; children, Dennis Walters, Melissa Walters; grandchildren, Logan Walters, Tyler Walters, Kris Walters, Cameron Walters, Ash Walters, Alex Walters, Ella Walters, Lilly Hawkins, Jack Hawkins, and James Hawkins; siblings Homer Walters, Robert Walters, Paul Walters, Brenda Caldwell, and Janet Tarter; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Monday March 20, 2023, at Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville with a service to follow officiated by Pastor Jerry Ward.
