Dr. Noranna B. Warner passed away May 8, 2023, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 76 following a brief illness.
Noranna was born in Lynwood, California on June 7, 1946. Her family moved from California to Sevierville, Tennessee, in 1958. After completing her secondary education at the Sevier County High School, she attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she received a B.S. degree in chemistry in 1968 and a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry in 1971. Noranna attended medical school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis receiving her M.D. in 1975. After internship and residency in Memphis, she undertook a post-doctoral fellowship program at the Scripps Institute in La Jolla, California, which she completed in 1981. After Scripps, she began a 34-year career in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston (now known as the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston). The Dr. Noranna B. Warner Endowed Chair in the Division of Rheumatology at the McGovern Medical School was established in her honor.
