A store off Douglas Dam Road is continuing the annual tradition of giving back to the community this holiday season by offering a free Thanksgiving dinner to anyone who stops by.

The Dam Store, located at 1425 Boat Launch Road, is giving out turkey and all the fixings including stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and a variety of desserts among other items on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, Nov. 25.

“Every year the owners of this establishment have given back to the community by giving away Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving at no cost, and that is a whole main course,” said John Laniefsky, an employee at the store.

Last Thanksgiving 225 people showed up for the meal and they hope to have as good a turnout or better this year. They do another meal at Christmas which also includes ham or turkey and a visit from Santa Claus.

“It’s people being around people. You’re not alone,” Laniefsky said. “I came here and I was alone for five years, and I came here and I’m not alone anymore on Christmas and Thanksgiving.”

The meals will be given out from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. People can take them home or eat at the store. They plan to cook nine turkeys totaling 192 pounds, and they encourage anyone to come out for a free meal and enjoy the hospitality with others in the community.

“That’s the whole point of it, not to be alone on Thanksgiving,” said Crystal Turner, who also works at the store.
