SEVIERVILLE — After lagging behind the statewide percentage of people who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, Sevier County is now ahead of the state on vaccinations.

The Tennessee Department of Health’s latest figures released on Tuesday show that 23.88% of people statewide have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while Sevier County is at 23.94% of the county population who has received at least one dose.

State figures also show the county’s active cases continue to drop. On Monday, the county reported 195 active cases, and that downward trend continued with 178 active cases reported on Tuesday.

There have been no new deaths, but one new hospitalization reported on Tuesday, bringing the total hospitalizations since the pandemic started to 271.

There were seven new positive tests reported out of 86 new COVID-19 tests, for a positivity rate of 8.1%.
