pet portrait

An 8x10 watercolor of your pet is among the items in the Sevierville Sunrise Rotary Club’s online auction. For details, visit www.32 sunrise. The auction runs April 8-28.

SEVIERVILLE — Typical auction offerings such as golf outings and vacation packages will be joined by items ranging from a pet portrait to monthly pecan pies in a fundraiser hosted by the Sevierville Sunrise chapter of Rotary International.

The virtual event begins today at midnight and continues until 11:45 p.m. on April 28.

“It is totally online,” said Sunrise chapter president Ashley Burnette-Davis. “They can pick up the auction items in Sevierville. We’ll coordinate with the winning bidders.”

Like many nonprofits and service groups, Rotary has had to cancel some of its usual fundraising activities during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The group uses donations and money made at special events to support Sevier County charities, complete service projects and award scholarships to local high school students.

“We just completed the service project where we take dictionaries to third graders,” Burnette-Davis said.

High school students interested in applying for a Rotary scholarship can contact their guidance counselor.

Burnette-Davis explained this is the first time that chapter members have hosted an online auction.

“We decided to get a little creative,” she said.

One of the more unique items up for bid is a 12-month supply of homemade pecan pies. Another is a package geared to college-bound students, complete with a miniature refrigerator. The pet portrait, with bidding starting at $10, captures “your best friend in watercolor.”

The goal is to raise $5,000 with the online auction.

Donated items are still being accepted for inclusion in the sale.

The Sunrise Rotary chapter meets each Thursday at 7:30 a.m. For now, meetings take place on Zoom. Prior to the pandemic, most meetings were held in downtown Sevierville at Healthy Balance Meals.

Potential members are welcome.
