GATLINBURG — The City is seeking an assistant city manager, and the application process continues through Nov. 4.

“Reintroducing the assistant city manager position to the City organization will be a valuable addition to our management team,” said Cindy Cameron Ogle, Gatlinburg City Manager.

The salary for the position will be determined based on experience.

“The assistant city manager will be assisting the city manager in various executive and managerial functions and operations,” said Seth Butler, public information officer.

“Those include assisting with financial planning, budget preparation and administration and reviewing of financial reports, as well as assisting with the development of operational policies for City departments, assisting with the preparation of financial statements and reports for the City Commission and auditors and reviewing and preparing reports and recommendations for the city manager.”

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, financial management, business or public administration or closely related field, as well as a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in government that demonstrates broad knowledge of governmental functions and at least 10 years of management and supervisory experience.

The application period closes at 4 p.m. Nov. 4. No timeline has been set for interviews or to hire an individual for the position.

The city last had the position when Cameron Ogle served as assistant city manager before being hired as city manager.

Ogle has served the city as city manager since 1989. She has served the city for 42 years, first joining the staff as a grant coordinator in 1978 before being promoted to assistant city manager that same year, which she served as for 10 years before being named city manager. As assistant manager she served under three different city managers: Joe Yarbrough, Jack Arthur and Jimmy Varner.
