SEVIERVILLE — Sevier County’s active cases of COVID-19 dropped below 300 Friday for the first time in months, dropping from 301 to 294.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported two new hospitalizations Friday, raising the total since the pandemic started to 245.

There were no new deaths reported, however.

The state found 21 new positive tests out of a total of 163 returned Friday, for a positivity rate of 12.9%.

Sevier County is making progress in catching up to the rest of the state in vaccinations, according to figures updated Thursday.

As of that update, 8.69% of the population has gotten at least one dose of the vaccination. The statewide figure for Thursday was 10.36%.
