Members of Spencer Clack Chapter, NSDAR welcomed six high school seniors from schools in Sevier County to be recognized as DAR Good Citizens on Monday, March 8, 2021.
Students from across Sevier County completed the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest. The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities. These Good Citizens are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. Once selected, the students are invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program, which consists of a personal statement and essay. The essay title was “Our Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.”
From those that participated in the program one outstanding student was selected from each Sevier County high school as the school’s DAR Good Citizen. This year’s Good Citizens include Shelby Carmichael of Sevier County High School, Chloe Dunlap of Seymour High School, Hannah Shedd of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, Skylar Jenkins of Northview Academy, Lucas Campbell of Kings Academy and Clair Jenkins of Pigeon Forge High School.
Shedd was also named the chapter winner.
Each Good Citizen was asked to share a little bit about themselves with the Spencer Clack Chapter members during the meeting. Each declared their plans to attend college, sports ambitions and career goals.
