The Well Springs FCE (Family and Community Education) Club participated in their annual FCE August Fest and Cultural Arts Contest on Aug. 19.
The Well Springs FCE (Family and Community Education) Club participated in their annual FCE August Fest and Cultural Arts Contest on Aug. 19.
FCE member Kathy Wilson coordinated the event with the help of the planning committee members.
The theme this year was a Hawaiian luau, which featured Hawaiian music, activities and food. FCE member Karen Brockhoff received the “FCE Club Person of the Year” award and several other FCE members received awards for their cultural arts entries.
Nancy Martin received first place in the basketry, beadwork, hand embroidery, fine arts painting, holiday decoration — Christmas, handcrafted toy and repurposing categories.
Sharon Schmitt-Matzen received second place in the paper crafts category.
Janice Chapman received first place in the quilts — hand embroidered category. Sandra Fuller received first place in the quilts — hand pieced and hand quilted category.
Pam Miller received first place in the crochet, fine arts painting (acrylics), hand stitching and color photography categories.
Joyce Soltesz received first place in the jewelry (non-beaded) and paper crafts categories.
Suzy Soltesz received first place in the sculpture category.
These entries are now eligible to be entered into the FCE Eastern Region Cultural Arts contest in Athens on Sept. 19.
FCE participates in several community service projects throughout the year. One of their service projects includes the Pregnancy Help Center in LaFollette.
FCE members donated baby items for the clients of this organization.
