“It is really hard because the weather has prevented us from getting as much practice time as we would like,” head coach Michael Cain said. “It has rained for two straight weeks. These guys came out to a tough course with no real preparation. You can’t fault them; they gave it all they had. They are better than what they showed here today, and they will show it. I am not worried. We will be okay. We just have a young team, and it was a tough golf course. It was the perfect storm.”
Keegan Nelson shot a 44 thru nine holes.
Drew Croley finished with a 47.
Ethan Nelson shot a 48 in the match.
Doug Adkins finished with a 50 and Parker Stanfield shot a 55 on the day.
Molly Fields led the girls with a score of 52.
Lauren Nelson shot a 54 on the day and Abby Crumley finished with a 57 for a combined score of 163.
Cain is happy his young team got their first tournament under their belts and can now continue to progress as the season pushes along.
“The first one is always tough,” Cain said. “Usually, we have a couple of preseason tournaments, but we didn’t get to play in those this year. I feel like these guys just need some good things to happen and it didn’t happen today for anybody. Hopefully they will continue to get more confidence. We will be ready. We will be okay.”
