Purple Ribbon Campaign launches for ’14

Apr. 24, 2014 @ 11:03 PM

Purple ribbons will start cropping up across Sevier County in the coming weeks as a part of Relay For Life of Sevier County’s annual Purple Ribbon Campaign.

“The fundraiser lets businesses and individuals in the county show their support for Relay while having the opportunity to honor and/or memorialize loved ones touched by cancer,” Sophia Conerly, the publicity chair for Relay, said.

The ribbons — to be displayed publicly at local homes businesses and offices to promote cancer awareness — are sold by Relay For Life team members for $25 each, and photos of those purchasing the ribbon will be published in The Mountain Press.

“It’s a good way to raise money and let the community show their support for Relay for Life in a way almost anyone can afford,” Jana Thomasson, publisher of The Mountain Press, said. “We’ve had businesses and individuals participate in the past, even groups of individuals have gone together and sponsored a ribbon to remember or memorialize someone.”

Those who wish to purchase a ribbon can do so through any Relay For Life team member or by emailing Seviercountypurple@gmail.com. Ribbons will be sold through May 26th and all proceeds go to Relay For Life of Sevier County.

You can see lists of current teams and their team members by logging on to www.relayforlife.org/seviertn.

Relay For Life will be held June 6-7 at Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge going all night from 4 p.m Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday.
