Police here say they’ve caught up with two men who allegedly brandished a gun at a clerk who tried to stop them from shoplifting at a hardware store.

Curtis Wayne Hudgins, 33, of 1987 Pine Ridge Road in Seymour, is charged with aggravated robbery, while Stephen Bryan King, 42, of 219 Panther Creek Road, is charged with felony theft.

They were arrested during a traffic stop in Knoxville Friday after local police sent out a description of the car used in the robbery Wednesday at the Lowe’s on Highway 66.

Police believe they were the two men who went to that Lowe’s and tried to leave with two tool sets valued at more than $1,000 each. When a clerk tried to stop them and asked for a receipt, Hudgins allegedly opened his jacket and displayed a gun. They left in a black BMW; Knoxville police arrested them driving the vheilce and found a firearm matching the description of the one used in the incident.

Authorities are also investigating whether they were responsible for similar robberies in Knox, Cocke and Hamblen counties.

Monday, Hudgins was being held at the Sevier County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond and King was being held in lieu of $2,500 bond.
