SEVIERVILLE — Two more men have come forward alleging sex-related charges against Dr. Rodney Carter.

The Sevierville physician, whose license to practice medicine has been suspended, was indicted by the Sevier County grand jury on two additional counts of rape and one new charge of sexual battery (the touching of private parts with the intent of sexual gratification). The new allegations were made public on Monday when grand jury action was reported by the clerk’s office.

Carter was charged this time on what is called a superseding indictment, Assistant District Attorney Steve Hawkins said. This means charges have been added to what Carter was already charged with last March. He pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Hawkins said two adult males came forward with new allegations after Carter was indicted in March. All of the charges Carter faces involve males and relate to incidents alleged to have occurred in Carter’s medical office.

Carter’s attorney, Bryan Delius of Sevierville, wouldn’t comment on the new allegations when contacted Monday.

“We haven’t had a chance to review the charges. He has not been arraigned,” Delius said. “All we know are the names (of the new alleged victims). We’ll investigate those as well.”

Delius did say earlier this year that depositions taken in the case strengthen his defense of the doctor. Delius said the sworn testimony has produced “startling revelations ... that are beneficial to Dr. Carter.”

Cater will remain free on the existing $200,000 bond, Hawkins said.

“He won’t be rearrested,” Hawkins said. “He has made sufficient bond. At the appropriate time the court will arraign him on the new charges and we’ll start the process on those. We’ll ask that the bond remain the same.”

Carter, who was a general physician at LeConte Family Practice on Middle Creek Road in Sevierville, is accused of digitally penetrating some of his alleged victims and improperly touching others. If convicted he faces eight to 12 years in prison on each rape charge and two years for each count of sexual battery. One of his alleged victims was 15 at the time. The others were of adult age.

The state Board of Medical Examiners suspended Carter’s medical license after he was charged in March. The medical practice remains open with another physician handling patients.

Carter’s trial is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 9.

I can see how a lot of people would be protective of Dr. Carter. As I worked with Dr. Carter he was a very gentle and caring man everyday, and I mean every single day. BUT, anyone who has worked closely with him can also agree that there was something not right during his physical exams. There were too many, they were at times too young of patients and they lasted an excessive time. I think rape is a strong word, but he has had this same proven problem in at least one past state. That tells a story right there. I mean come on he should have known his method of physical procedure had been deemed inappropriate. His accusers did not know of his history, even the people that worked with him were not fully informed of his past accusers. I wish he was not in this position, because he truly appears to be a special Dr, but as someone that has worked closely with him, let me say that these men/boy do deserve their day in court and I am sure the minor that came forward was not concerned with his financial future being funding by LeConte Family Practice.

Dr.Carter is in my book a very caring Dr. and I have been to several of them,Dr.Carter listens to his patients and he is there for them to care for them .Its a shame that people are stupid when it comes to exams a Dr. must do his job. I have been a patient for 7yrs and I cannot wait until this good Dr. is allowed to practice again so I know I will get the best care.A person is innoncent until proven guilty. Patients speak up and help defend the good Dr.

To legal knowledge... you are correct. I am generalizing an area and know that it is wrong to do so. For that I apologize. I am just so angry at what is going on. I do know more than most of the public because this is my step-father. I am just so anxious for the facts to come out and want his side of the story heard. So many people are quick to judge when they just don't know.

Also, if you knew me you would know if I thought for one second anyone in my family ("kin folk") was capable of what he is being accused of, they would be written off in a heartbeat. I love my family very much and stand by my mother and my step-father.

I'm sorry my daughter's anger got the best of her yesterday when she read the article about my husband being charged with 2 more crimes. She is so concerned about our welfare and she is very angry. What I do want to say is that we very much love "the locals" here and that the average person not in power is kind and loving and we have been taken in to a community with loving arms. If it was not for many "locals" we would be having such a harder time. We are truly loved and we love almost anyone here. Yes, there is a lot of "good ol boy" stuff that is going on. I would be lying to say everyone here is honest and caring. There are some that want to see Dr. Carter jailed that do not know him. All those who know him know the truth about him. He would never harm anyone. He is a true healer and a very caring person. The problem here in Sevier County is that many doctors are not doing their job. There is a lot of "bad medicine" being practiced here. Does your doctor care enough about you to give you a rectal or genital exam when you state you have a problem? Or does he examine you with clothes on and guess what the problem might be? It's a little hard to do an exam on genitals or do a prostate exam with clothes on. A normal prostate exam can take 1 to 3 minutes if done properly and it is uncomfortable. I have chaperoned his exams and I don't sense he finds great enjoyment in doing them but is one of the last brave souls who still does them. When discussing this with another local doc he agreed he does not do them because he doesn't like having it done. Would you like a doctor to not do his job because he was uncomfortable? That's his problem not yours. He is there to give good care and to properly do an exam. The accusations being made are quite interesting. Especially since all exams are chaparoned. No one else seems remembering these bizarre events. People lie for all sorts of reasons and people like to make a name for themselves especially those in power. We love the people in Sevier county but we do not necessarily love the politics and government in Sevier County. Yes, they are the ignorant ones who want only to be in power and will do anything to stay in power. And please, don't "bring it on" as she stated. We have had enough. Dr. Carter, his family, and his patients have suffered enough. He had done nothing more than his job and those who make remarks about him do not know him. And those who make nasty remarks that know him are lying. God will bring the truth to light and he will also deal with his accusers. We love you, people of Sevier county. Thank you so much for you hugs, cards, concerns and prayers. Keep praying. God will prevail.

Generalizing an area and saying all the people who grew up in a certain area are hillbillies is dumb, and, I doubt if you even know what a hillbilly is.

Just because someone has a plaque or a degree does not mean they would know this is nuts. That is an outrageous statement from Brandy. News flash,.... even people who do have years of college and many degrees, doctors & lawyers have sexual desires, and many of them are perverted just the same as the next person. You are the one who is narrow minded for thinking your kin folk could not do that. I am not saying he did or didn't do it. I was not there, and the point is, neither were you,... at least I hope not.

I think you will be wishing they didn't bring it on so fast when the doc is behind bars. You don't know everything about your parents hidden desires

welcome to narrow minded hillbilly land. I am amazed at how many people out there think, well if he is nice to me then he must be nice to everyone, he could not possibly be a wife beater or a rapist, or pervert or thief, no sireee he is a nice guy to me so he must be a good guy all around. How egotistical and selfish you people are, you would have followed Manson to had he shook your hand and patted your back.

There are none so blind as those who will not see,and anyone who sides with this doctor is truly as sick as he is. There are thousands of other doctors out there are not being accused of crap like this, so you just think a bunch of boys got together and said, lets embarass ourselves and this doctor, cuz it may be fun! come on wake up fools! we need to get rid of these monsters. I bet he has a wife too that is standing by his side, going " My husband could never do such a thing, while she is secretly remembering how he could not take his eyes off the little boys Tv.

I agree....it is a sad sad sad day we live in that a Dr. cannot do his job without fear of being arrested for this garbage. All we have here is a bunch of hillbilly's who are hoping to get rich from law suits. It is really sad that the DA is buying into this garbage as well. Please stop this madness and let this good Dr. go back to work so I can get some decent medical care again!

If this wasn't my own family, I would think this is an episode of Melrose Place..... Sevierville has more uneducated small minded people than I care to count. Anyone here with any type of medical or legal knowledge needs to know this is nuts!!! The State of TN and the medical board are doing everything that they can to drag this on. My parents are fighters, bring it on Sevierville!!!
