PIGEON FORGE — The Pigeon Forge Lady Tigers faced two challenges on Tuesday — the Kingtson Lady Yellowjackets and a steady downpour that wrecked any possibility of consistent offensive play.

Still, the favored Lady Tigers took the 2-0 win, but it took overtime to get there.

“Every one of my girls has a lot of heart and they’ll do their absolute best, and it showed on the field tonight,” coach Billy Mosely said following the game.

Both teams struggled throughout the first 90 minutes, although the Orange and Black did manage to string together more scoring opportunities than the Jackets.

Still, with puddles of standing water all over the field, the scoring chances were usually foiled by a non-cooperative roll or miserable footing.

In the first of two mandatory 10 minute overtimes, the Lady Tigers got a huge scare as a Lady Jacket got a great looping shot on goal.

Fortunately, senior keeper Megan Kelly made a great save, jumping to knock the shot over the crossbar.

Minutes later the Lady Tigers finally found the net, as Dani Montgomery place a corner kick perfectly in front of the Kingston goal, where her sister, senior Cheyenne Montgomery headed it in for the 1-0 lead.

“I was really happy, I new we had won it then,” Montgomery said.

In off the bench for injured star Kelsey Brooks, Pigeon Forge’s Katie Doane added the Lady Tigers’ second goal of the game in the second overtime to seal the win.

“These girls want to win, and what else can a coach ask for?” Mosely said.

Now the Lady Tigers will face the winner of Gibbs/CAK. The game will likely be played at Pigeon Forge on Thursday, probably with another 4:30 p.m. start time.
