Sevier Aquatic competes at districts
Sixteen swimmers represented Sevier Aquatic Club in the recent USA Swimming Southeastern District Championships held at McCallie School in Chattanooga.
The Stingrays boasted several swimmers in the top eight in the events, and swimmers achieved sixteen new southeastern cuts, granting an invitation to the next level of swim meets, the Southeastern Championships in Nashville.
For the 8 and under girls, Avery Huskey, 8, medaled in 7 of her 8 events, taking third in the 25 yard breaststroke, finishing fourth in the 25 backstroke, 50 breast, 100 individual medley, and 50 back, and placing eighth in the 100 freestyle, and the 50 butterfly. Abbie McCoy, 8, dropped time in 6 of 8 events she swam, including an incredible 13.32 seconds cut off her personal best in the 50 free.
In 8 and under boys, Silas Knight, 8, dropped time in 6 of his 8 events, and medaled by placing sixth in the 50 back. Braxton Cusick, 7, cut time in 3 of 4 events he swam.
Swimming for the 9-10 girls, Lila Blalock, 9, finished first in the 50 free, 100 back, and 200 IM while dropping an unbelievable 19.18 seconds, swam to second in the 100 IM, took third in the 500 free and 100 free, and finished fourth in the 50 back. Blalock also clinched southeastern cuts in the 50 free, 100 IM, 500 free, 200 IM, and 100 free.
Ansley Atchley, 10, finished first in the 50 free, swam to second in the 50 fly, 100 free, and 100 fly by dropping 14.34 seconds off her personal best and securing her first-ever southeastern cut, finished fourth in the 100 IM, fifth in the 50 back, and seventh in the 100 back. Infinity Marcial, 9, making her first debut at the Districts Championships, cut time in half of her events.
In 9-10 boys action, Alex Ogle, 9, swam to second in the 100 fly, finished fourth in the 50 back, placed fifth in the 200 free, took sixth in the 100 IM, and got 8th in the 50 fly. Caleb Ogle, 10, swam to second in the 50 back and 100 breast, took third in the 100 back, and finished fourth in the 50 free.
For the 11-12 boys, Samuel Knight, 12, finished first in the 50 fly and 100 fly, took third in the 100 IM and 50 breast, placed fourth in the 200 free, finished sixth in the 500 free, and scored seventh in the 200 IM.
Knight also punched his ticket to the Southeastern Championships by achieving cuts in the 50 fly and 50 breast.
Brady Cusick, 11, finished first in the 200 IM and 100 free, swam to second in the 100 back, and finished fifth in the 100 fly. Teammate Dylan Bortolon, 11, finished fifth in the 200 free, 50 back, and 100 back, placed sixth in the 100 breast and 50 breast, and finished seventh in the 100 IM.
Representing the 13-14 girls, Lindsey Myers, 13, swam to second in the 100 fly and 200 fly, took third in the 200 free and 400 IM, and placed sixth in the 100 back and 200 back. Myers also achieved a southeastern cut in the 200 fly. Emily Grace McCarter, 13, cut time in 6 of the 8 events including taking third in the 200 breast and placing eighth in the 100 breast.
Lucy White, 14, cut time in three of her events, including finishing fifth in the 1650 free.
In the 13-14 boys’ races, Charles Blalock, 13, cut time in four of five events he swam including taking third in the 50 free, finishing fourth in the 100 back, placing fifth in the 200 back, scoring sixth in the 100 free and seventh in the 200 IM.
