All-Region 1-A/AA soccer teams announced
The honors keep rolling in for Gatlinburg-Pittman’s Lady Highlanders soccer team. Though the squad didn’t make it’s ultimate goal — a repeat trip to the state soccer tournament.
Players on the team, which finished an impressive 21-4 on the year, added more accolades this week as Region 1-A/AA released its All-Region team.
G-P senior keeper Morgan Manning was tabbed as the top goalie in the region with the Keeper of Year distinction.
While she and senior teammates Karsen Sims and Kasey Sumeriski each nabbed first-team All-Region status.
“They have played a big part in rebuilding our program,” coach Whit Helton said.
“They did not have a very good record their freshman year.”
And through hard work, leadership and true grit they’ve helped make us into a good team.
“Morgan from never playing goalkeeper as a freshman to having the honor of being district and region keeper of the year is a testament to how hard she’s worked.
She’s put in a lot of additional time at home with her parents, and went to camps on her own, and it’s paid off for her.”
Micki Werner, a junior, was listed on 1-A/AA’s second team.
“I’m proud of all their work, they’re definitely deserving,” Helton said.
The Pigeon Forge Lady Tigers were also honored by the region’s coaches.
PF teammates Caitlin McGinnis and Carson Montgomery were both given honorable mention status in the coaches’ balloting.
