Duncan is perfect in Lady Eagles win over Sevier County
The Seymour Lady Eagles (35-6-1 overall) began their defense of their 2012 IMAC Tournament title Friday night with an 11-0 victory over cross-county foe SCHS at T.J. Carter Field.
Freshman Miranda Duncan tossed a perfect game for the Lady Eagles, retiring all 15 of the Bearettes she faced in the five-inning, mercy-shortened game. She struck out 10 of the 15 opposing hitters.
And while she was doing her work from the pitcher’s circle, the Blue and Gold hitters were doing their best at the plate.
Freshman teammate Bailey Pierce clobbered a pair of home runs for Seymour and collected four RBIs, while Kaitlin Atkins and Duncan herself also left the yard with homers.
Duncan finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI to go along with her perfecto, while Pierce, Hannah Lawson, Abbie Chasteen (2B) and Lauren Irwin (3B) also collected two hits apiece for the Lady Eagles.
SHS will move on to face South-Doyle Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at the ballpark in Seymour.
Sevier County will play Morristown East in the loser’s bracket game at 6 p.m. with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.
