Pigeon Forge girls finish third in 3-AA
What a difference a day makes.
The day after struggling at the start against Fulton, the Pigeon Forge girls basketball team put Union County in a deep hole on Tuesday to win the District 3-AA consolation game, 45-35.
The Tigers scored the game’s first nine points, eventually building an 18-4 lead after the first quarter. Late in the second, it was already 30-5. The Patriots took as many timeouts as baskets in the opening quarter, struggling to keep up with an efficient Pigeon Forge attack. Mikayla Trombley led a pack of seven Tiger scorers with 18 points in the win.
“We had a good practice at school before we came to play,” said Tigers coach Paul Reagan. “I thought we didn’t play hard last night so why not go hard in practice today and then come out and play? We came out and did that tonight. I’m really proud of the girls. They came ready to play and showed that.”
The Tigers now travel to Alcoa on Friday in the first round of the region tournament.
