Fulton rolls by Pigeon Forge

The Fulton Falcons entered Friday night’s game at Pigeon Forge with an average margin of victory of more than 53 points, and the trend continued with the Tigers falling by a 61-0 final against what appears to be an unstoppable Fulton squad.

“They’re not good, they’re great,” said Tigers coach Scott Meadows. “We gave them a couple of things ... but they’ve just really got some amazing players.”

Despite the blowout, the Tigers (3-3 overall, 1-2 District 3-AA) unexpectedly gained the early momentum with a surprise onside kick recovered by Pigeon Forge senior Colton Nugent at the Falcon 39.

The Tigers drove to the Fulton 20 before senior Devin Boyd missed a 37-yard field goal attempt just left on a 4th-and-3 with 8:37 remaining in the opening frame.

It was the only real scoring opportunity for Pigeon Forge all night. It was all Falcons (7-0 overall, 3-0 District 3-AA) after that.

Fulton senior running back Daryl Rollins-Davis scored four touchdowns on totes of seven, 24, 37 and 48 yards.

Rollins-Davis’ 48-yard score came with 3:48 in the third and gave the Falcons a 47-0 lead at the time, ending the Fulton starters’ night.

Fulton senior wide receiver Xavier Hawkins added three TDs in the win, including a 26-yard game-opening score on a great leaping catch on a jump ball in the right corner of the end zone from senior quarterback Penny Smith with six minutes left in the first.

Hawkins made it 14-0 Fulton moments later with a 60-yard punt return. He also scored in the second half on a 60-yard pass from Smith to make it 41-0.

Fulton junior running back Zach Winston made it 54-0 with 9:51 to go on a two-yard plunge, and junior quarterback Adam Diggs made it the eventual final with a one-yard sneak with 8:34 to play.

Pigeon Forge will look to rebound with a non-conference road trip to Chuckey-Doak, while the Falcons will enjoy their off week next Friday night.
