Letter: Reader takes issue with cartoon

Editor,

First off, I was pretty offended at the political cartoon, on Aug. 22, depicting the Pilgrims as “undesirables” who came across some border illegally. Totally the wrong picture!

The Pilgrims actually came here because they were being persecuted for their Christian faith. Also, the Pilgrims and the Native Americans lived and worked together in peace for about 50 years.

The Pilgrims did not sneak across the border of a country in order to get free government help. They were not invited by some government to come in by the droves with the promise of paying their way. They worked and some even died to make a new life where they could be free.

The Native Americans were not all peace loving people either. They had battles and wars between different tribes. There was slavery and kidnapping here before “evil white man” came.

And if you say we killed the Indians with our diseases, then read about how white people died by the millions in Europe because of small pox and the plague. A country cannot be a country without borders. It is this twisted view of history that is being taught to our children by the liberal academia and journalism. They are trying to make our children feel guilty for being “white.” Very wrong!

I know the majority of your readers would feel the same way. I will be looking for the cartoon that shows the viewpoint of the majority of your subscribers. I hope you will share this opposing view.
