I am registered voter that works and lives in Pigeon Forge. I write this letter concerning the pending liquor by the drink referendum re-vote in the City of Pigeon Forge. I believe there are several important reasons why the citizens of Pigeon Forge should vote in favor of keeping liquor by the drink.

I have been a bartender in the local restaurant industry for the past 8 years. My daughter is also employed in the same field. Since the middle of December we have been fortunate enough to offer our dining guests a full service bar. My daughter and I both feel offering a full bar has had a very positive impact on our guests, visitors and locals alike.

Our guests never understood why we were able to serve alcohol in the form of beer and wine, but not in a mixed drink. Guests now don’t have to visit our neighboring cities for an adult beverage with dinner. We are able to offer them complete dining experience. I am a firm believer that everyone should have the right to choose whether to have a drink with their dinner or not.

The taxes on liquor by the drink are beneficial to the school systems, and as a parent, I believe children in our city should be given the same opportunities as the children from the surrounding areas. I believe that helping children be successful in school can make a huge difference for the future of our society.

I feel the mandatory training and background check every server and bartender receives in order to obtain their server’s permit from the State Alcohol Beverage Commission more than prepares us to ensure responsible alcohol sales and service.

These are some of the reasons why I ask you to reaffirm your vote of yes on March 14.
