Letter: Good healthcare program needed now
This year I had total knee replacement at an East Tennessee hospital. Before I even went in I tried to get some kind of help for the bill that Medicare wouldn’t pay, such as co-pays.
I was told to call this person and that person. But nothing. Well, I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days. I had to have my wife to bring me some real food. But after going to several people to get help on my co-pays it never happened. I have gotten bills from people I never met. And they’re in a collection agency.
And of course it’s always the patient’s fault. Professional people set up the rules and the poor and low income people have to be good little boys and girls and keep our mouths shut.
What these professionals need to do is get on the same page with their patients and quit putting the blame on them. And by the way, the bill they gave Medicare was $47,000 for my wonderful stay.
We need a health insurance program now, not when it’s good for professionals.
