Letter to the editor: Law should keep media from publicizing all mass shootings

In your editorial of Tuesday, Dec. 18, you said we need to start thinking about ways to reduce the likelihood of school shootings. Here is my solution.

Since the president said he is going to use all the power of his office to combat this, he should ban the media from publicizing any mass shootings on any type of public media. Yes, make it a crime under some Patriot Act rule, since many of our rights are gone anyway and this is a form of terrorism in its truest form. However, he could have government create an 800 number for anyone to use to inquire of crimes of this nature, if they wish to do so.

Some, if not all, of the mentally ill who plan and carry out these heinous crimes are seeking attention or their 15 minutes of fame, and the media seems to give it to them every time. Then, it seems the next one has to outdo the last.
