Letter: There is wine in grocery stores, across the line in N.C.

Now that the wine in grocery stores bill is one step closer to a vote, I would like to divulge a little secret that they don’t want you to know; there is already wine in grocery stores in one of Sevier’s adjoining counties, namely Swain.

Whenever I’m in Bryson City, I simple go to Ingle’s big supermarket where I find a great wine selection with good prices.

Though not in Tennessee, North Carolina isn’t a foreign country, but to be on the safe side, and curious to know if there was a limit on how much wine could be brought over, I spoke with the attorney for the Tennessee Alcohol Bureau in Nashville. After looking it up in “the book,” he informed me that somewhere around five gallons could legally cross the border, if I remember correctly.
