Shirley Brodine Willis

Shirley Brodine Willis finished her earthly journey on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 and moved on to her next life with our Lord and Savior. She truly loved the Lord and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she studied and learned about Christ and His teachings of what this life is about.

She is preceded in death by her husband and mate for eternity, Charles E. Willis, sister, Bobbie Spann and brother Edmund “Crazy Eddie” Brodine.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life: son, David C. Willis and wife Diane; daughter, Deanna M. Willis; son, Daniel A.J. Willis and wife Tracy; daughter, Kristina Willis Thomas, daughter, Kimberlee C. Willis and husband Tommy. She has several grandchildren, Logan Willis, Zane Willis, Melody Willis, Justin Willis, Anthony Willis, Gabby Willis, Paige Willis, and Ryn Willis; one great-grandson, Emory Willis. She also leaves behind several nieces and 12 foster children, as well.

Shirley truly loved life and loved to help others. She believed that it was everyone’s responsibility to serve others and she lived what she believed. She was in the United States Army and received and honorable discharge after serving her country; she was a LPN nurse and worked at several hospitals and nursing homes in the TN and GA area. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross and would assist many people on disasters that would occur from earthquakes to flooding. She and her late husband went to school to get their degrees in business management and also owned and operated a pizza shop in Gatlinburg for several years before his passing in 1978.

Shirley loved to draw and create things. She is remembered by her children for creating a book called the Happiest Tree, several drawings, and paintings. Shirley truly enjoyed her gift for singing and performed many times throughout her life in choirs from OH to GA.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 401 Hardin Lane in Sevierville. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Friday, January 24th with funeral service to begin at 7 PM. Shirley will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 25th at Fox’s Cemetery at 10 AM with full military honors. A light lunch will be offered at the church after the burial.
