Robert Allison “Bob” Roberts, 89, of Gatlinburg died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Sevier County Health Care Center.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Gatlinburg. He grew up in Pitcairn, PA but had lived in Gatlinburg for 37 years. He worked as a manager at the Eat ’N Park restaurant in Pittsburgh for 20 years. He was affectionately called “Uncle Bob” by many people in the community during his early years in Cosby, TN, where he managed Kamp Rite Campground.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio man on an ocean going tug.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Chester C. Roberts and Viola Bethune Roberts of Pitcairn; daughter, Janet Lee Roberts; siblings, Calvin Roberts of San Diego, Audrey Roberts (Lloyd) Henry of Hemet, CA and Bernice Roberts (Thomas) Walston of San Diego; sisters-in-law, Patricia Roberts, Catherine Roberts; brothers-in-law, Alan Dickson, Thomas Watson, and Lloyd Henry.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Maples Roberts; son of Dorothy Thomas Cate and Marilyn; daughters Carol L. Roberts Tramontana and husband Sam of Phoenix, Denise I. Roberts of Monroeville, PA; daughters of Dorothy Betsy Cate, Susan Greengold and husband Dan; grandchildren Jennifer C. Coccia (Steve K. Mahar) of Rochester, NY, David Kear and Nicole, Kari Kear Bennett and Jason, Steven Hintz and Heather, Kristin Pickens and Ryan, Ryan Hintz and Lindsay; great-grandchildren Steven K. Mahar Jr. and Robert Adam Mahar, Giovanni, Stella and Valentina Kear, Jorja and Lily Bennett and Whitley Hintz; brothers Eugene Roberts of Naples, FL, and Gerald Roberts of Ventnor, NJ.; sisters Arlene Mitcheltree of Redlands, CA and Dorothy Dixon of North Huntingdon, PA; sister in law Viola Roberts of Hemet, CA; special friends Charlie and Betty Jo Hughes, O.H. and Anne Ogle, Janella Knight and Carolyn Sutton; mother of his daughters Esther C. Amantea; 17 nieces and nephews including Kristin Roberts Ball of Cosby.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 223 Rosa L. Parks Avenue, Suite 301, Nashville, TN 37203.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Monday with funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Burcham will officiate. Interment 11 a.m. Tuesday in Shiloh Cemetery. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
