James V. Hill
James “Jim” V. Hill, of Kodak, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Mr. Hill was a member of Alder Branch Baptist Church and owner of Shanton’s Appliance Repair. As a founding member, Jim helped to organize the Sevier County Volunteer Rescue Squad in 1959. He dedicated 54 years to the squad, devoting his love and service to the community. He held many positions during his time of service, including, but not limited to, Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Unit Director and Instructor. He was also a certified EMT.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, William G. “Bill” Hill; mother, Ada (Manning) Hill; brother, Johnny Ray Hill; sister-in-law, Nellie (Cook) Hill; sister, Doris Jean Catlett; mother and father- in-laws, Charles and Laura Poe; brother-in-law, E. Allen Poe; sister-in-law, Bonnie Poe.
Survivors include: Wife of 58 years: Ina (Poe) Hill; Son and daughter-in-law: James Steven Hill and wife Eleanor; Grandchildren: Stephanie L. Seal, Shanna D. Bennett and husband Lindon “Ike”, Christopher L. Hill, Jacob Ready; Great-grandchildren: Amiti Little, Angelique Johnson, Sierra and Elaina Bennett; Brothers: Thomas G. Hill and wife Betty, Ronnie L. Hill and wife Dorothy; Sister: Shirley M. Roberts; Nieces: Karen Roberts, Melissa Newman, Donna Summers and special niece and “granddaughter” Becky Hill-Adkins; Nephews: Warren Catlett, Kevin Catlett, Billy Hill; Brother-in-law: Bernard Poe; Sister-in-law: Margaret Poe; Special friends: Marc and Lenoria Kelly, Jim Kyker, Doris Frazier, Paula Ready, Gail Antle, Vivian Lindsey, Scott Sutton; Extended family: sons, daughters, brothers and sisters in the Sevier County Volunteer Rescue Squad, as well as members of other emergency agencies throughout the county.

The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Chaplain Steve Rose and Rev. Jim Hutson officiating. Family and friends will meet 2 PM Saturday in Alder Branch Cemetery for interment. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
