James Robert (Jim) Mathews, age 90 of Sevierville, Tennessee passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 11, 2012.
Jim was born on September 19, 1922 in Knoxville, Tennessee in a very loving home. Jim served in the US Navy and fought for his country in two wars. He later moved to Chicago, Illinios and then to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he became Fleet Manager for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years and married the love of his life Bobbie Mathews.
The two traveled every single state in the U.S. together and retired in Sevierville, TN on English Mountain. Jim loved to go fishing and his family meant the world to him while he would also do anything for a neighbor or friend. He had the most amazing and caring heart ever known.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, brothers and his loving wife.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Patricia A. Helton and grandson Mychael J. Fox and partner Timothy Kevin Cunningham and many cousins. He had numerous family members as well to include grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family sincerely brought him such joy throughout his life.
Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday in Eledge Cemetery for graveside and interment with military honors provided by American Legion Post # 104. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
