A lifelong Certified Public Accountant, he remained active on the board of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants and was named Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry in 2006. He spent more than two decades with Proffitt's Department Stores, and was chief financial officer for Sampson Enterprises from 1987 to 2011. Herb loved boating, dancing, sharing his house on the lake, and shooting sporting clays (although he could never kill any living thing), but most of all loved his family. He was an amazing father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother, and friend, and has left a lasting legacy of love and generosity to serve as a guide for those of us left behind.
