Loraine M. Messer
Loraine M. Messer, age 90 of Sevierville, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. She was born September 21, 1923 in Clairfield, TN. Mrs. Messer was a devout Christian and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Messer, Sr. , and parents, Cardine and Etta Gilreath Moore.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. George Henry Messer, Jr. and wife Sheryl of Pinehurst, TX, Dr. David Wayne Messer and wife Carol of Avondale Estates, GA; grandchildren, Jeff and Kelley Messer, of Abilene, TX, Kara Messer McAfee and husband Trey of Houston, TX, Dr. Julia Messer and husband Tim Raper of Raleigh, NC, Jeremy Messer and Sharron Owens of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Kathlyn, Melia and Reid Messer, Macy and Jack McAfee, and Graham Raper; sisters, Anne Ball, Pauline Handy, and Maxine McCann.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to her caregivers Monika Johnson and Carolyn Sutton, as well as the aides, nurses, and staff at Fort Sanders-Sevier Nursing Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sevier County Public Library.
The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Saturday with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Matthews officiating and eulogy delivered by Carol McCullough Messer. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
