Charles L. Kirkland

Charles L. Kirkland, age 85, of Seymour, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 9, 2012. He was an Army Veteran, longtime master furniture restorer. Charles was the founder of Kirkland Furniture service around 1960, a Knoxville area furniture repair shop. He was a second generation furniture restorer who started his career working with his father, Charles Wallace Kirkland, at the Fowler Brothers Furniture Store on Gay Street. He continued his 60 plus year career doing restoration for many local area furniture stores and private customers. Mr. Kirkland once trained NC furniture factory repairmen and was the subject of a Knoxville News Sentinel article and a PBS television special. Kirkland Furniture Service will continue operations as usual operated by the Kirkland family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Kirkland; parents, Charles W. and Eva V. Kirkland; brother, Jack W. Kirkland.

He is survived by his 3 daughters, Judy Gilbert, Victoria Pardee, and Patricia Johnson; sons-in-law, Patrick Pardee and Joseph Johnson; grandchildren, Dewey Gilbert, Patricia Merica, Jamie Mitchell, Dave Bryant, Ben Rose, and Nikki Herndon; several great and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service 7 p.m. Tuesday in Atchley’s Seymour Chapel with Rev. Josh Greene and Rev. John Sherrod officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Wednesday in Atchley’s Seymour Memory Gardens with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home Seymour 122 Peacock Court, Seymour, TN 37865 (577-2807).
