BOMA approves road name change

It took a few years, but one city road sign will now match the address that residents and the U.S. Postal Service already recognized.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday to officially rename Fowler Road to Millwood Drive.

The road was mislabelled on maps when it was first accepted into the city, Public Works Director Bryon Fortner said, but the postal service already delivered mail to the homes using the Millwood Drive address.

“It won’t require any change of address,” he said.

It will, however, mean the city can remove the Fowler Road signs and replace them, which should cut down on confusion for people who aren’t familiar with the area, he said.

Also Monday, the board approved:

n Second reading of rezoning of property on Henderson Avenue from high density residential to intermediate commercial use

n Renewal agreement with BB&T for health plan consultation

n Contract with Griffin Electrical Company as temporary electrical provider for the Sevierville Convention Center

n Payment of $22,957.34 to the Tennessee Department of Transportation for improvements to Highway 66
