A man charged with breaking into two homes last week and sexually assaulting teenaged girls in both homes led police on a foot chase across the Little Pigeon River and down the Parkway before they could arrest him.

Ivan Arenas, 31, of 3029 Jess Wilson Road in Pigeon Forge, was charged with two count of sexual battery, two counts of aggravated burglary and a single count of evading arrest. He was being held Thursday at the Sevier County Jail.

Officers had been searching for Arenas since April 18, when he was accused of breaking into two homes off Ridge Road and groping teenaged girls in the houses.

“This person was known to both families,” Lt. Barbara Ward said. “It wasn’t a random act.”

Because the victims identified him, officers had been waiting at his home and place of work.

“We knew exactly who he was, and knew where he was supposed to be and where was supposed to come to work. We were waiting on him,” Chief Jack Baldwin said. “Had we put out the information we were looking for him, he might not have come back.”

According to arrest warrants Arenas allegedly into the two homes, which are near each other, within a few minutes of each other around 4 a.m. April 18.

The girls awakened to find Arenas touching them, but he left without committing any other acts against them.

The families notified police soon after, and officers had been searching for Arenas, but couldn’t find him until Wednesday.
