Shagbark Property Owners Association employees charged with theft
Employees of a homeowners association near Pigeon Forge were arrested late this week on indictments issued from the Sevier County Grand Jury.
Alice K. Ball, 39, of Shirley Myers Lane in Sevierville, and Judy M. Hixon, 44, of Dover Lane, Dandridge, were arrested on charges stemming from alleged embezzlement from the Shagbark Property Owners Association, where the two were employed.
Shagbark is a private residential community with a 24-hour staffed security gate near off Wears Valley Road near Pigeon Forge. The development was founded in the early 1970s and now has approximately 250 cabins, 550 owners and nearly 900 lots.
Ball was charged with one count of theft over $60,000. Hixon received a charge of theft over $10,000.
A release from Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals Friday stated that his department began an investigation in July after a complaint was made by a representative of the homeowners association alleging the two had misused a company credit card.
"Upon investigation and an audit, it was revealed that two office managers had embezzled an undisclosed amount of money over a period of approximately four years, starting in 2009," the sheriff's department release reads.
Attempts to reach a representative of Shagbark Property Owners Association were unsuccessful, and office staffers weren't allowed to comment on the on-going situation.
Arraignment is set for the pair on Sept. 30.
