At least one person is in custody after an armed robbery Monday at a local pharmacy.

Sevierville Police Department spokesman Bob Stahlke said the CVS Pharmacy on Highway 66 in Sevierville was robbed around 4:30 p.m. Not many details were available as to how the suspect approached employees in the store, but he said the suspect left with an undetermined amount and unknown type of drugs.

"Responding officers saw the suspect vehicle, a Ford Explorer, heading north on Highway 66," Stahlke said. The suspect vehicle failed to stop for officers, who chased the suspect to Schneider Road, near Smokies Park at Interstate 40.

The suspect vehicle crashed into a ditch, ending the pursuit. One person was taken into custody, Stahlke said.

There were other individuals in the suspect vehicle, he said, but none had been taken into custody. At least one person suffered minor injuries.
