The city could take the next step Monday toward adding a booking engine to the Department of Tourism web site.

City Commission discussed the long-awaited project at a workshop Thursday, and is set to vote on a contract Monday.

USDM, the advertising firm that provides online advertising for the city, recommended the city use an engine called VacationRoost.

“They follow the best practices, they have a very solid business model and they have happy clients,” USDM Chairman Leah Woolford said.

The engine is also designed to work with all the different sorts of lodging businesses in Pigeon Forge, including hotels, cabin rentals, campgrounds and condos, she said.

Its services will be paid for through a commission charged on each transaction booked through the web site.

City officials said the city needs the booking engine on its site to help keep visitors looking to visit the town’s attractions staying at city hotels.

Also Monday, the commission will consider:

Roadway improvements for the entrance to the Island

An ordinance amending rules for parade permits

A request to donate books tot he Pigeon Forge Public Library

An interlocal agreement with Sevier Solid Waste
