At its meeting Thursday night in the Civic Center, the Sevierville Regional Planning Commission passed a plat approval of property near Northview Academy for the Sevier County Board of Education.

The plat — Tax Map 12, Parcels 208 and 209 and Tax Map 13, Parcel 16.02 and part of 16.00 — is on the north side of the Northview Academy property.

With the approval, changes will be made to the intersection of Swaggerty Road and Winfield Dunn Parkway near the academy.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation, the owners of the property and the school board have agreed to the changes.

“As part of the process, the subdivision of the adjoining property is being proposed,” Interim Planning Director Judi Forkner said.

Two new public streets also will be constructed, one of which would tie directly into a new entrance for the school.

“That would allow the current construction entrance to be closed, and would allow all the school traffic to be directed to the improved entrance at Swaggerty Road,” Forkner said.

Another cul-de-sac street would extend into the area of the plat owned by the county.

This is a final plat approval. The preliminary plat approval was waived because of time constraints. The school board and TDOT wish to have construction finished before the opening of school this fall.

The commission also approved:

n A site plan for an auto service center on the Parkway at Scenic Drive, requested by William S. Denton and Associates. It was approved subject to approval of an additional oil separator.

n A site plan for mini-storage buildings in Northview Business Park, requested by Sims Surveying. It was approved subject to the county planning staff approving circulation of traffic, and approval of the stormwater management office, if needed.

n Rezoning of property at 1709 Chapman Highway from R-1 to C-2, requested by Benjamin Harrison.

The Board of Zoning Appeals, which consists of the same members, met immediately after the planning commission. It approved its only agenda item: Case Number 13-05 — a request by Selby Williams for a six feet side yard variance to construct a screen enclosure.
