Christopher James is the new sports editor at The Mountain Press.

James, 27, comes to the paper from the Berkshire Eagle, a daily newspaper in Pittsfield, Mass., a city of 44,000 residents.

At the Eagle, James was a sports reporter covering high school and community sports. He produced features, columns and videos in addition to game stories and previews.

Educated at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, James, a native of Baileyville, Maine, took his first professional job at The Daily-Times in Maryville in 2008.

In Blount County, James covered local high schools as well as Maryville College.

After two years he went to Pittsfield, where he was employed three years with The Eagle.

"Chris will be an asset to our staff," said Jason Davis, The Mountain Press editor and former sports editor. "He comes to us with great references from journalists I respect.

"In Massachusetts, Chris coordinated the staff's prep assignments to ensure coverage of area high schools, making him uniquely suited to move into the job with the Press."
