Boyfriend charged in Gatlinburg stabbing
The 20-year-old boyfriend of a stabbing victim has been charged with attempted second-degree murder by Gatlinburg police, Assistant Chief Gary Waldroup said Friday.
James E. Heroy III of New Haven, Ind., was charged Thursday night with the crime. He is in the Sevier County Jail under $300,000 bond.
Police responded to Hillside Motel Apartments on Highway 321 around 2:30 p.m. Thursday where officers found Amber Leslie, 22, of Fort Wayne, Ind., with what Waldroup called multiple stab wounds.
She was taken by a LifeStar helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Thursday where she is listed in critical conditiion, he said.
Detectives Tim Williams and Rodney Burns investigated and later charged Heroy.
