Challenging the chancellor
A local real estate investor and some of his friends spent a Tuesday morning picketing outside the Sevier County Courthouse.
The investor is lodging complaints over how Chancellor Telford Forgety handled some of his cases.
Fred Holt claims Forgety failed to reveal a conflict of interest when he was presiding over a foreclosure proceeding in Jefferson County. Holt claims that, after issuing a summary judgment in a foreclosure proceeding involving National Bank of Tennessee, the chancellor recused himself. Holt says he later learned the chancellor owed money to the bank, which Forgety did not disclose at the time. He says when he complained to the Board of Judicial Conduct they declined to investigate the charges. Forgety declined to comment.
