For several years, members of Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church has been working to restore their building.

With this goal in mind, the church held its annual yard sale on Saturday.

“We’re raising money to repair our steeple and put the bell back up,” said church member Pam Tarwater.

The church’s bell has been silent for years. Decades ago, when the steeple started to leak, the bell was boxed in with plywood, Tarwater said.

“For the last three or four years, we’ve been working raising money for painting. Now that we’ve finished our other restoration projects, we decided it’s time to work on the steeple,” she said.

Both parishioners and members of the community contribute items to be sold. “Usually, as soon as the sign goes up about the sale, I have people calling telling me they have items to donate,” Tarwater said.

The church has been organizing the sale and pricing items for about two weeks. The sale will be held again next week, and all items will be half price.

“This is the place to be when you have a need,” said Pastor Eugene Thomas.
